Telefónica Launches Movistar+ Sports Channel At Price Of $22 Per Month

A "mega-project" that is the fruit of Canal+ and Telefónica-owned Movistar TV, Movistar+, "has been born," according to Jorge Fernández Maldonado of AS. It is a "strong TV bet" to which 3.6 million people will have access, "free from any contract agreement." Canal+ and Movistar Fusión customers will, starting on Wednesday, "enjoy the new channel," which will offer "all sports except football." The basic package for those customers -- for €20 ($22) per month -- includes more than 80 channels, Canal+ and Yomvi. After that, "customers can choose options for movies, series and sports." The sports option costs €20 per month and includes Canal+Deportes, Canal+Deportes 2, Movistar F1, Movistar MotoGP, Canal+Golf, Teledeporte and Eurosport 1 and 2. Football "will have its own package on the side." Movistar+ is "currently finishing negotiations." Sources said that with the possible inclusion of beIN Sports, it will air La Liga, the Copa del Rey, the Champions League, Europa League and foreign leagues for a price between €20 and €30 ($33) (AS, 7/7).
