Franchise Notes: Elche To Take Appeal Against Relegation To Administrative Court

Spanish football club Elche will take its appeal against relegation from La Liga to Spain's Administrative Court for Sport (TAD). Club President Juan Anguix has been in Madrid "to come to an agreement with the Treasury" after the club was demoted for non-payment of tax and players' wages (FOOTBALL ESPANA, 6/23). ... La Liga side Sporting Gijón has had its transfer ban confirmed for the new season, with Spanish second division side Osasuna punished as well. Both clubs have been sanctioned by the Spanish Football League's (LFP) budget control committee for "failing to pay their players." Any signings they do make "will have to be players promoted from the youth system, free transfers, or players paid at the minimum wage," which equates to €129,000 ($144,000) a year (FOOTBALL ESPANA, 6/23). ... Tottenham Hotspur launched a new mobile app to allow fans across the world to follow the team on the go. New features include the integration of on-demand video service, allowing fans to watch the latest interviews and features from Spurs TV and catch up on extended match highlights (Tottenham).
