League Notes: NRL CEO Says Rugby League is 'Stronger, Healthier' Than Ever

National Rugby League CEO David Smith believes that the majority of clubs are "supportive of the direction of the game, declaring rugby league is 'stronger and healthier than it's ever been.'" Smith will meet with club powerbrokers in Melbourne on Thursday to "discuss a raft of issues in one of four scheduled annual meetings." Smith encouraged all stakeholders to meet and "express their opinions freely but felt there was little to grumble about when it came to the big picture." Smith: "The game is as strong and healthy as it has ever been" (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 6/17). ... State units affiliated with Boxing India on Wednesday "claimed ignorance" about the Int'l Boxing Association’s (AIBA) decision to constitute an ad-hoc committee for administrating the sport in India, even as it planned to write to AIBA about proposing a date for conducting its elections. Boxing India Acting President Meren Paul, who on Wednesday conducted an exec council meeting, "insisted that AIBA would have to officially inform BI about the formation of ad-hoc committee and can’t arbitrarily impose its decision" (PTI, 6/17).
