Franchise Notes: Botafogo Hits Comedy Video Production Company With $3M Lawsuit

Brazilian comedy video production company Porta dos Fundos was "forced to take down a video that satirized" Brasileiro side Botafogo for its "excess of sponsors" on its jerseys. In addition, the club took the case to court for unauthorized use of its logo and is "now charging" the company R$10M ($3M). Botafogo lawyer Domingos Fleury said, "Porta dos Fundos at least showed an act of responsibility and took the video down. From that day forward, they no longer run the risk of being fined R$100,000 ($32,370) per day" (BAHIA NOTÍCIAS, 6/16). ... Brasileiro side Grêmio made a "donation of one thousand chairs" from its obsolete Olímpico Monumental stadium, which is "awaiting demolition," to neighboring club Riograndense. The seats "will be used" at Riograndense's Eucaliptos stadium and half are "ready to be installed." Riograndense President Lisete Fröhlich thanked Grêmio via a statement on the club's official website (GLOBO ESPORTE, 6/15).
