NRL Side Wests Tigers Bring In Headhunters As Second CEO In Two Days Resigns

National Rugby League side Wests Tigers "engaged a professional recruitment firm to headhunt" its next CEO after Grant Mayer became the second boss in as many days to part ways with his club, according to Read & Honeysett of THE AUSTRALIAN. Barely 24 hours after Parramatta CEO Scott Seward stepped down, the Tigers "released a statement in which they announced Mayer had resigned." It is understood that Mayer made the decision to stand down after a meeting on Monday with Tigers Chair Marina Go, where it was "made clear the club was looking to go in another direction." Mayer may not be the last club CEO to "part ways with his club" -- rumors have circulated for weeks that Manly CEO Joe Kelly was "considering his position after becoming a peripheral figure within the Sea Eagles" following the return of former coach Bob Fulton. GM of Football Operations Phil Moss has been appointed acting CEO while professional search firm Crown & Marks "searches for a replacement" (THE AUSTRALIAN, 6/16). In Sydney, Brad Walter reported Mayer has been "linked with a return to Manly after a shock exit from Wests Tigers that may open the way" for former NSW Premier Barry O'Farrell to take over the CEO's job at the joint venture club. Speculation linking Mayer to the Sea Eagles would suggest that Kelly is "poised to leave" his post (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 6/15).
