São Paulo's Pelé Museum Sees Loss Of $93,000 Over A Three-Month Period

São Paulo's Pelé Museum had its one-year anniversary on Monday and has thus far "accumulated a loss" of R$290,000 ($93,370), according to Luiz Alexandre Souza Ventura of ESTADÃO. Pelé said, "After the World Cup, the number of visitors dropped a little, but it will get better with the Olympics." The museum, inaugurated on June 15, 2014, received an investment of R$50M -- 65% from sponsors and the rest from the federal, state and municipal governments. Between Nov. '14 and January, costs totaled R$456,000 while revenue totaled R$166,000. Pelé Museum Dir José Eduardo Moura said, "We had 1,700 visitors per day during the Cup. ... [Now,] The number of people [who visit] on slower days is around 100." The museum's entry price of R$18 ($5.80) "is salty" compared to the neighboring Football Museum, which charges R$6 ($1.93) and also "includes one visit to Pacaembu Stadium." However, according to Moura, the "goal of the project is not to obtain a financial return on the investment, but a sociocultural" one (ESTADÃO, 6/15).
