Nigerian defender DAVID ONIYA "collapsed on the pitch and died after playing just a few minutes of a local friendly in Malaysia on Saturday." Oniya, 30, "went down three minutes into the game for T-Team and was pronounced dead at hospital around half-an-hour later" (London TELEGRAPH, 6/14). ... Three-time world champion MAO ASADA has entered this year’s Int'l Skating Union Grand Prix series. Mao announced on May 18 that she would "resume competing this year after sitting out" the '14-15 season (KYODO, 6/14).

MAKING MOVES: Scottish Championship side Rangers are "on the verge" of naming former Brentford Manager MARK WARBURTON as the club's new manager. Warburton will be "assisted in his new role at Ibrox" by former Gers defender DAVID WEIR, with whom Warburton worked alongside at Griffin Park. Warburton replaces STUART MCCALL in the Ibrox dug-out. Warburton was one of five coaches "considered for the manager's job at Ibrox," with the other four on the shortlist believed to be McCall, DEREK MCINNES, IAN CATHRO and BILLY DAVIES (STV, 6/14).

UCI ATHLETES COMMISSION: The Int'l Cycling Union (UCI) announced the results of the elections of its Athletes Commission. For the first time, the members have been elected directly by their peers (UCI).
