Pro Kabaddi League Stakeholder Star India To Maintain Sponsorship, Invest $11M

Star India -- the Pro Kabaddi League's majority stakeholder -- retained its title sponsorship of the league for its second season and committed to "put in an additional" Rs 70 crore ($11M) to "help the franchise grow," according to Saransh Gehlot of SPORTSKEEDA. Star India COO Sanjay Gupta said that it has been "overwhelmed by the demand from sponsors from all sectors to associate with the PKL." Gupta: "We have seen a lot of interest across sectors like auto, telecom and e-commerce, but we have decided to nurture the sport by retaining the title sponsorship with Star Sports." The first edition of the PKL was viewed by a record 43 crore (6.7 million) viewers (SPORTSKEEDA, 6/9). INDIAN TELEVISION's Anirban Roy Choudhury reported Star Network has "roped in five associate sponsors for the India telecast." Star "sealed a deal" with Clearwater Solicitors, which has associated as the title sponsor for the U.K. telecast of PKL Season 2. As a part of its distribution strategy in the U.K., Star will "also air the second season of PKL on Life OK." Clearwater Solicitors "bagged" the title sponsor rights to "ensure increased exposure" to the U.K.'s South Asian community. The sponsorship deal is only for the '15 edition and is exclusively for the U.K. broadcast (INDIAN TELEVISION, 6/9).
