FBI Investigates Former CBF President Teixeira's Monaco Account For Suspected Bribe

The FBI "identified deposits that came from Persian Gulf companies" in the accounts of former Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) President Ricardo Teixeira in Monaco, which "led American investigators to suspect that the Brazilian received money to vote for Qatar" as host of the 2022 World Cup, according to Jamil Chade of ESTADÃO. Kentaro, a company that was responsible for marketing friendlies for the Brazilian national team from '06-12, was recently "interrogated" about a friendly between Brazil and Argentina in Qatar in '10. It is suspected that the match "was used by Qatari companies and organizers of the 2022 bid as a way to pay bribes" to Teixeira and former Argentine FA President Julio Grondona. Days later, both Teixeira and Grondona "voted for Qatar to host the Cup." Swiss and American investigators "discovered transfers coming from Gulf accounts" to Teixeira's Monaco account. However, an internal FIFA investigation said that it "did not find indications that the match was used for the payment of bribes" (ESTADÃO, 6/11). LANCEPRESS reported it is "not the first time that Teixeira's Monaco account" has been suspicious. During the 2014 World Cup, it was "revealed" that an account belonging to the former CBF president contained €30M (LANCEPRESS, 6/11).
