UEFA President Michel Platini Doubts Germany Will Host Olympics, Euro In 2024

UEFA President Michel Platini "has doubts that Germany would host both the European Championships and the Olympic Games" in '24, according to Frieder Schilling of SPONSORs. He referred to the example of Turkey, which wanted to host both events in '20 "and did not get any." Platini reportedly told the German parliament's sports commission that "should Hamburg get the nod to host the 2024 Games it would be very difficult for the German Football Federation (DFB) to host the Euro." Seven members of parliament "met with Platini at UEFA's headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland in mid-April." The IOC will award the 2024 Games in '17. The Euro host will be selected by UEFA's ExCo in '18. DFB President Wolfgang Niersbach said in March that even if Hamburg gets the Olympics "the federation would move forward with its Euro bid" (SPONSORs, 6/10).
