League Notes: Farah's Coach Salazar Says Accusers Are 'Making False Statements'

Olympic Gold Medalist Mo Farah's coach Alberto Salazar said he will show his accusers are "knowingly making false statements" as he continues to deny doping claims. Salazar, who coaches Farah in the U.S.,"denies allegations made in a BBC investigation" that he has practiced doping techniques. A BBC Panorama investigation alleged that Salazar "violated anti-doping rules" and doped U.S. runner Galen Rupp in '02. Salazar: "I will document and present the facts as quickly as I can so that Galen and Mo can focus on doing what they love and have worked so hard to achieve" (BBC, 6/9). ... South Korea's top baseball league "reverted to a tighter reserve clause on foreign players on Tuesday." Presently, if foreign players in the Korea Baseball Organization do not re-sign with their original teams after their contracts expire, the teams "retain the rights to such players for two years." Presidents from the 10 clubs "decided to increase the period back to five years at their board meeting." The KBO said that the change "will take effect after the ongoing season and will not apply retroactively" (KOREA HERALD, 6/9).
