Brazil-Mexico Friendly Profits Total More Than $1M, Breaks Brazilian Record This Season

The friendly between the Brazilian and Mexican national teams on Sunday "generated the largest revenue this season" in Brazil and totaled R$6.7M ($2.2M) from ticket sales alone, according to Thiago Ferri of LANCENET. Until Sunday, the Campeonato Paulista match between Brasileiro sides Palmeiras and Santos, held at Palmeiras' Palestra Itália stadium, had "generated the most this season," which was R$4.2M ($1.3M). Sunday's match not only was the most revenue for Palmeiras' Allianz Parque stadium, but was also the "largest in history for the state" of São Paulo. All box office revenue "belongs to the event promoters" that are linked to the Brazilian Football Federation (CBF). The promoters will pay a portion of the sum to Allianz Parque builders WTorres as rent, and those "figures were not yet revealed." Palmeiras, however, "will have the right to 20%" of the total rent payment for hosting the friendly as a part of its own deal with WTorres (LANCENET, 6/7).
