U.S. To Investigate 2014 World Cup Contracts, Former CBF President, FIFA Secretary General

The 2014 World Cup contracts between FIFA, commercial partners and sponsors "will be investigated" by the U.S. Department of Justice with focus on FIFA Secretary General Jérôme Valcke and former Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) President Ricardo Teixeira, according to Jamil Chade of ESTADÃO. The U.S. DoJ "refused to comment on the case." However, sources close to the case have "confirmed that the relationship between Valcke and Teixeira will be 'examined.'" Valcke "gave counsel" to the CBF in regards to the Cup and "prepared documents for Brazil's bid." Brazil's World Cup "involved more than 1,000 different contracts, even though many of them were with the government." What the U.S. "wants to know" is if Valcke and Teixeira "maintained a privileged relationship during" the World Cup (ESTADÃO, 6/3).
