Former CBF President Teixeira Probed For Money Laundering, Tax Evasion

Former Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) President Ricardo Teixeira, who is "suspected of participating in an international bribery payment scheme," has been accused of laundering R$464.56M from accounts during his term, which included organizing the 2014 World Cup, according to FOLHA DE SÃO PAULO. A January report from the Brazilian federal police (PF) said that Teixeira "maintained international accounts" and withdrew R$720,000 to "obtain an apartment" in Rio de Janeiro. The PF said that, because Teixeira "would not have a way of justifying the figures involved in the acquisition" of the apartment, he "took money out of the country." Teixeira is facing charges from the PF for money laundering, tax evasion and "falsifying a public document" (FOLHA DE SÃO PAULO, 6/1). REUTERS' Eduardo Simões reported a PF source said that an investigation into Teixeira's bank accounts carried out earlier this year "found that he had laundered money and violated currency regulations." Teixeira has "not been indicted by a judge" (REUTERS, 6/2).
