Event Notes: Germany, Turkey To Host Volleyball's European Olympic Qualifiers

The European Volleyball Federation (CEV) confirmed the host venues for the men's and women's continental Olympic qualification tournaments. The Baskent Volleyball Hall in Ankara, Turkey will host the women's qualifier from Jan. 4-9. The men's qualifier will be staged at Berlin's Max Schmeling Halle from Jan. 5-10 (CEV). ... At least one spectator has been "injured at Roland Garros after a bed-sized section of sheet metal with spikes on it crashed down on to fans after being blown off its structure in high winds." The French Open quarterfinal between Kei Nishikori and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga was "suspended after the object, part of a giant video-screen structure high above Philippe Chatrier court, flew into the crowd" (London TELEGRAPH, 6/2).
