Franchise Notes: Brasileiro Side Santos Files Suit With FIFA Over Neymar Transfer

Brasileiro side Santos said on Friday that "it filed a suit with FIFA seeking compensation for a breach of contract in the transfer of forward Neymar" to Barcelona, adding to the controversy that led to the resignation of the president of the Spanish champions. Santos President Modesto Roma said that "the team filed the suit against Barcelona, Neymar, his father and marketing firm Neymar Sports e Marketing" (REUTERS, 5/30). ... Bayern Munich has become the first professional sports club in Germany to meet the requirements of the new TÜV Rheinland standard for "Certified Service Quality -- Sport." The standard is tailored to the needs of athletic organizations. The club underwent an inspection process incorporating both secret inspections on gamedays and a comprehensive audit with all those responsible to earn the certification (TÜV Rheinland). ... EPL side Leicester City issued a statement to confirm that it has "launched an investigation into a video that was released by a Sunday newspaper that appears to show three of the club's players engaging in a sex session which includes racially abusing a Thai woman." James Pearson, 22 -- son of Manager Nigel Pearson -- striker Tom Hopper, 21, and goalkeeper Adam Smith, 22, "can be seen in the video naked." The statement said the players "would like to convey their sincere apologies for their behaviour" (INDEPENDENT, 6/1).
