Franchise Notes: Brasileiro Side Corinthians Receives $33,000 For CIDs

Brasileiro side Corinthians "finally was able to sell" R$100,000 ($33,000) worth of development incentive certificates (CID), a tax incentive program from the São Paulo city government that enabled the construction of the Arena Corinthians and its use during the 2014 World Cup. Brazilian construction company Odebrecht, which "was responsible for building the stadium," acquired part of the club's CIDs (ESTADÃO, 5/19). ... Brasileiro side Santos "received a positive response" from Banco BMG with respect to its loan application. If all "goes well," Santos will sign the release of R$8M ($2.7M) "for the club's coffers" by the end of this week. The loan request was made to "settle delayed image rights payments" (LANCENET, 5/18). ... EPL side Newcastle fans are planning to occupy St. James' Park "after the final Premier League game against West Ham in protest" against Owner Mike Ashley. The club, in 17th and without a victory since Feb. 28, "could be relegated" if it fails to win. The AshleyOut.com group said that it "will continue to occupy the ground" after the final whistle, whatever the result (BBC, 5/20).
