FedEx Delivers Main Sponsorship Deal With UEFA's Europa League Through '18

FedEx will be announced as the main sponsor of the Europa League on Friday at a news conference at UEFA's Nyon, Switzerland HQ, according to a source close to the deal. The three-year deal is for high seven figures a year starting with the '15-16 season and ending with '17-18, according to the source. FedEx is replacing Western Union, which, according to German media, elected to walk away after three years as presenting partner for the tournament. FedEx will be the main sponsor for the event, and the deal is among one of the company's biggest sports sponsorship after golf's FedEx Cup, and its biggest global football partnership. FedEx made the announcement internally on Wednesday, ahead of Friday's official news conference, the source said. The Europa League is the second highest European club football competition after the Champions League. The competition runs from September to May. This year's final will be played in Warsaw, Poland on May 27.
