Event Notes: NZ Cricketers Slam Day-Night Test Concept Against Australia In Survey

Cricket's inaugural day-night test in November "looks doomed" unless Cricket Australia plays hardball, after it was revealed 17 of New Zealand's 20 contracted players oppose it. Cricket Players' Association CEO Heath Mills "has gone public to reveal the level of opposition among captain Brendon McCullum's side, before both national boards meet next month to decide whether or not to proceed" (STUFF, 5/14). ... Former Pakistan captain Rameez Raja "lashed out at Cricket Zimbabwe for calling off its tour to Pakistan because of security apprehensions following a terrorist incident in Karachi" on Wednesday. He said, "I fear that by taking this hasty decision Cricket Zimbabwe have put on stake their relations with the Pakistan board. The decision has surprised me because the unfortunate incident took place in Karachi where terrorists attacked a bus with unarmed civilians and there were no matches scheduled in Karachi" (PTI, 5/14).
