Brazil President, Rio 2016, Government Officials Meet To 'Fine Tune' Olympic Games' Plan

Brazil President Dilma Rousseff on Tuesday met with the Rio 2016 organizing committee and government officials to "announce that now is the moment to 'fine tune'" the final preparations before the 2016 Olympic Games, according to Leonardo Filipo of GLOBO ESPORTE. Rousseff also "promised to return" to Rio de Janeiro several times before the Games. Rousseff said, "It's time for fine tuning. ... To host an event of this magnitude, the first things we need to solve are the everyday problems. ... We did it that way for the World Cup, we did it that way for Rio+20." The "closed-door meeting" included Rousseff, Rio de Janeiro Governor Luiz Fernando Pezão, Rio Mayor Eduardo Paes, Rio 2016 President Carlos Arthur Nuzman and Brazilian Sports Ministry Exec Secretary Ricardo Leyser. Rousseff: "We had a meeting that I considered to be very productive. I took the responsibility with Nuzman to return periodically to meet with the [Rio 2016] committee. To integrate the actions of the federal, state and municipal governments. But it's especially important that the federal government contributes to this large effort" (GLOBO ESPORTE, 5/12).
