League Notes: FICA Warns Against Touring In Pakistan As Risk Is 'Unmanageable'

The Federation of Int'l Cricketers' Association has warned against int'l teams touring Pakistan, "stating its security experts had said the 'risk is unmanageable.'" FICA's statement came a day before Zimbabwe Cricket Managing Dir Alistair Campbell and security experts "arrived in Pakistan to assess the security situation ahead of Zimbabwe's limited-overs tour of the country later this month." FICA Exec Chair Tony Irish said, "We are very concerned about the safety of players and any match officials who may be sent to Pakistan, should this tour go ahead" (ESPN, 5/6). ... Mexico's National Commission for Physical Culture & Sport (CONADE), led by Dir Alfredo Castillo, ordered audits for national federations presenting irregularities in their administration, and the first to be audited are the archery federation and the rowing federation. This "comes from talks Castillo has held with the athletes, some of which included accusations against the federations." Castillo said that "there will be investigations into how some federations are using public resources" (LA AFICIÓN, 5/6). ... Super League side St. Helens player Kyle Amor said that heart screening "should be introduced throughout professional rugby league," after the death of Danny Jones. Jones, 29, collapsed during League One side Keighley's game against London Skolars after a "suspected cardiac arrest and was later pronounced dead in hospital." Amor: "Mandatory heart screening only happens at elite Super League level. I genuinely believe it should happen across all divisions" (BBC, 5/6). ... World Rugby has entered a strategic partnership with the U.K. Gambling Commission as part of a precautionary measure to ensure the game remains free of corruption. The Gambling Commission regulates all licensed operators in Great Britain and manages information pertaining to betting on Rugby World Cup 2015 and other World Rugby tournaments (World Rugby).
