Brazilian Stock Car Series' Aug. 2 Round Moves From Salvador To Curitiba

Brazilian tourism company Bahiatursa President Diogo Medrado said that stock car racing "is not completely out" of Bahia state, according to Rebeca Menezes of BAHIA NOTÍCIAS. Medrado's statement was given after the Brazilian stock car series' Aug. 2 round, which was "predicted to occur in Salvador," was moved to Curitiba because of the "lack of agreements with local authorities." Medrado said that the Bahia state government "has discussed the possibility of hosting the event" on Sept. 13. He said, "We're pulling for this round in September, because the autodrome in Brasília is being renovated and might not be ready in time for the race." Last year, Bahia's state government was responsible for R$1.3M of the track renovations while Salvador's city government "contributed" R$650,000. However, with "the impact of rain, it is 'not in the city government's plans' to invest that much once again," which has placed renovation behind schedule. Medrado: "They (race organizers) only want to come for a determined value. So we're discussing the viability together with government partners, the private sector and with the Bahia Automobile Association (FAB) so that the event does not leave Bahia. ... The government is 100% interested and is working to keep this round" (BAHIA NOTÍCIAS, 5/6).
