Former England cricket captain ANDREW STRAUSS "looks set to be named as the new director of English cricket." The England & Wales Cricket Board created the role leading the England team "in a restructure" after former Managing Dir PAUL DOWNTON left in April. Strauss' fellow former England captains MICHAEL VAUGHAN and ALEC STEWART had also expressed an interest in the position (BBC, 5/4). ... Spanish second division side Osasuna on Monday named ENRIQUE MARTÍN its coach for the remainder of the season. Martín replaces JOSÉ MANUEL MATEO (MARCA, 5/5). ... The Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) "decided to fire" national U17 team coach CAIO ZANARDI on Monday, "five months before the World Championships" (LANCENET, 5/4). ... Relegated League Two side Tranmere Rovers has named GARY BRABIN as its new manager. Brabin as been in a coaching role at EPL side Everton since leaving Conference side Southport. He previously managed Cambridge and Luton Town (BBC, 5/5).
