Media Notes: DirecTV's Pan American Division To Carry 2016 Copa América

DirecTV's Pan American division acquired the rights to carry the 2016 Copa América, which will be held in the U.S. from June 3-26. All 32 games of the 16-team tournament will be carried live and in HD. Next year's edition will mark the 100th anniversary of the tournament (NEXTV, 4/29). ... Argentina Cabinet Chief Aníbal Fernández reiterated on Thursday that the first and second leg games between Boca Juniors and River Plate during the round of 16 will be aired on TV Pública. Fernández confirmed that the broadcast "will represent no cost to the national government." He said, "This presented a very interesting situation, because when we spoke of the 'Fútbol para Todos' program, we were looking for exactly this, that the common man and woman without cable could have this" (TÉLAM, 4/30).
