Brazilian Authority of Doping Control To Conduct 2,500 Tests In '15

The Brazilian Authority of Doping Control (ABCD) announced Wednesday that it will conduct 2,500 athletic drug tests this year, according to GLOBO ESPORTE. This includes all athletes participating in 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games' test events. ABCD National Secretary Marco Aurelio Klein said, "Now there exists a test distribution plan, whose costs will be ABCD's responsibility. ... We're going to obtain the analyzing standard of WADA, which says how tests should be conducted." According to Klein, the Brazilian Doping Control Laboratory (LBCD) "should be accredited by WADA on May 13," when the world governing body is set to meet in Montreal. That will allow LBCD to "conduct antidoping tests" for the 2016 Games. For Luis Horta, an antidoping specialist and ABCD UNESCO consultant, '15 "will be a historic year for Brazilian sports." Horta: "Without a doubt, 2,500 tests in the country this year represents a revolution. Especially because around 50% of tests will happen out of competitions, which practically doesn't happen in Brazil" (GLOBO ESPORTE, 4/29).
