Brazilian Paralympic Committee President Aims To Attract Private Sector Sponsors

With 99% of its resources provided by the public sector, the Brazilian Paralympic Committee (CPB) "hopes" that the 2016 Paralympic Games will inspire "the private sector to invest," according to Jonas Moura of LANCENET. CPB President and IPC VP Andrew Parsons affirmed that Brazil's objective is "to have as a legacy a larger interest of consumer businesses" investing in the Paralympic Games. Parsons: "We would like to raise this percentage. In Brazil, the private sector initiative still needs to understand Paralympic sports as a product. ... These are people who talk on their cell phones, drink soft drinks, have bank accounts and are consumers." Being the "third largest sporting event in the world," the Paralympics are "faced with a large opportunity to attract investors." Parsons said that more resources "are being invested in the CPB." He added, "We have a great retrospect of what is said in respect to London. Nine partners that were from the Games remained on the British Paralympic Committee after the event" (LANCENET, 4/28).
