Spanish Football Federation Asks For Bigger Cut Of Revenue From Centralized TV Rights

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) is now asking for 1% more than it originally did (2%) in terms of the quantity of revenue it would receive if the Real Decreto centralizing the sale of Spanish Football League (LFP) TV rights is passed, according to Matallanas & Jiménez of AS. The decision was adopted by the RFEF's board, which held a meeting on Monday. The percentages of rights in the draft of the law that would centralize TV rights are: 93% to the clubs, 3.5% as "insurance" for clubs that are relegated. Also, .5% would be allocated to the unions, 1% to Spain's Superior Sports Council (CSD) and 2% to the RFEF. The RFEF wants "the additional 1% it is requesting to come from what is allocated for the CSD." The federation said in a statement, "The board has reiterated the necessity of passing the Real Decreto that would manage the collective sale of broadcast rights and distribution of revenue for all of Spanish football." Optimists "believe the new law could be approved on Thursday." The "realists believe that this would be going very fast" (AS, 4/28).
