Spanish Olympic Committee Announces Five-Year Deal With Spanish Brand Joma

The Spanish Olympic Committee and Spanish sports brand Joma on Tuesday signed a deal in which Joma will sponsor the COE and outfit Spanish athletes during the 2016 and 2020 Olympics, according to Enrique Ojeda of AS. Throughout the five-year deal, Joma will also provide equipment for Spanish national teams in COE-dependent competitions starting with the Baku 2015 European Games in June. Joma President Fructuoso López said that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the company, "which started with him as the only employee and has expanded worldwide" (AS, 4/28). In Madrid, G. Pérez reported Joma replaces Russian designer Bosco, which provided the uniforms during the 2012 Olympics. COE President Alejandro Blanco said, "It is a very special day for us. We always wanted a Spanish business to sponsor us." After speeches by Blanco and López at the presentation of the agreement, six Spanish athletes were presented modeling the uniforms they will wear during this summer's European Games (EL PAIS, 4/28).
