AC Milan Clears First Stadium Location Hurdle, Reveals Further 'Innovative' Details

AC Milan has "cleared the first hurdle" in its quest for a new stadium, with the plan among those approved by land owner Fondazione Fiera Milano, according to FOOTBALL ITALIA. The Rossoneri are "planning to build a new arena in the Portello area of the city," with its bid just one of many submitted for the land. The club's plan is one of two "preferred options, with the other being an undertaking by asset management company Prelios in conjunction with Vitali." AC Milan said in a statement, "Milan aims to build a sustainable and environmentally friendly stadium, easily accessible by public transport, that blends in with the local area and that can offer the city educational, recreational and social activities 7 days a week" (FOOTBALL ITALIA, 4/27). In London, Jack Bezants reported AC Milan said that its stadium "would be one of the most innovative in the world." The club explained that the new stadium will only have a "minor impact on the aesthetics of the city" with the building peaking at 30m in height, half the size of the San Siro, with another 10m being underground. The club also claimed that "state of the art sound-proof materials would result in minor noise disturbances throughout the city." AC Milan added that "the project takes its inspiration from the English model: a stadium that can be reached by public transport and by doing so encouraging fans to be more environmentally aware" (DAILY MAIL, 4/27).
