Franchise Notes: Red Bull Says Renewal With Renault 'Best Hope' To Get Back To Top

Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner "has acknowledged a renewal of vows with Renault remains his team’s best hope of returning to their former glories." The frustration of both parties "has frequently boiled over in public this year, with Red Bull describing Renault as a 'bit of a mess' and threatening to quit the sport unless they matched the power provision of Mercedes and Ferrari." To compound the sense of impending divorce, Renault responded "in kind by suggesting that they too could walk away from the sport" (FOX SPORTS, 4/27). ... Gaining coverage on free-to-air TV "has been a constant gripe" of National Rugby League side Canberra Raiders, "impacting on the club's ability to attract sponsors and denying supporters who don't subscribe to pay television access to watch their team." The Raiders "have three games on Channel Nine in the first 20 rounds." Raiders coach Ricky Stuart "took a dig at his club's lack of free-to-air television coverage" and hoped Channel Nine CEO David Gyngell "got the message" (CANBERRA TIMES, 4/27). ... EPL side Newcastle United Manager John Carver "has called for more protection from the club after saying he was 'abused' by fans during Saturday's 3-2 defeat by Swansea." Carver "was confronted by angry home fans during the club's lowest attended game of the season." Carver: "I am not going to stand out there and be abused during the game. The club has to do something about it" (BBC, 4/27).
