Rio 2016, Manaus Meet To Define Strategy For Hosting Olympic Games

The Rio 2016 organizing committee and representatives from Manaus and Amazonas state met Friday to "define what adjustments the city will need to make to host teams" for the Olympic Games, according to GLOBO ESPORTE. For Rio 2016 Exec Dir of Operations Marco Aurélio Vieira, Manaus "will only need some adjustments" as the installations utilized during the 2014 World Cup are still "considered good." Vieira: "We're building a governance and we need to have a group in Manaus, involving the state and city government, that will work together with the Olympic Committee. These two organizations will now march parallel to each other. Manaus will replicate the Olympic models that are required for the field, accommodations and transportation. So we can have one united Olympics and for the athletes to feel as though they are at the Olympic Village in Rio de Janeiro." According to Vieira, the governance "means building a way of how work will be done, or, dividing work between the Organizing Committee, municipal and state government." Manaus will host Olympic football events from Aug. 4-7 (GLOBO ESPORTE, 4/17).
