Event Notes: Netherlands To Host 2015 World Squash Federation's World Juniors

The World Squash Federation has confirmed that the 2015 World Junior Squash Championships will take place in the Netherlands, during the same period as was scheduled for the event before its recent move from Cairo. The WSF World Junior Championships 2015, comprising men’s and women’s under 19 age individual events followed by the biennial junior women’s team event, will now be held in Eindhoven -- the former from July 26-30, with the Women’s Team Championship following on from July 31-Aug. 4 (WSF). ... Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre and Quebec Transport Minister Robert Poëti said that the city "will continue funding the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal through to 2019." Montreal will provide the Grand Prix an annual budget of C$1.25M ($1M) from '15-19, a decision subject to endorsement by Montreal city council (MONTREAL GAZETTE, 4/19). ... The Australian Football League "is expecting an attendance of between 12,000 and 13,000 when St Kilda face Carlton in a new afternoon timeslot," which Westpac Stadium CEO Shane Harmon "hopes will help boost the crowd for the venue's annual AFL game." However, Harmon "acknowledges the challenge of attracting a crowd in a 'frontier market,' one he believes is similar to that of western Sydney." In a city renowned for its antisocial weather, Harmon knows that conditions "will play a crucial role in determining how many people turn up to the game." Just 13,409 attended last year's St. Kilda-Brisbane Lions game on Anzac Day, which "was marred by wet conditions" (THE AGE, 4/20).
