Argentine Club San Lorenzo VP Tinelli's Bid For AFA Presidency Hits Roadblock

Argentine first division side San Lorenzo VP Marcelo Tinelli's "race toward the presidency of the Argentine FA suffered a blow during a meeting of the exec committee," according to Marcelo Argüelles of CLARÍN. The committee statute will not recognize the year Tinelli spent leading San Lorenzo's marketing committee, "and this means he will not have the four years of experience necessary to run for president." After "several meetings in which there were threats to try to modify Article 50 of the General Regulations, which would allow Tinelli or Juan Sebastián Verón to run in the elections in October, members of the committee addressed the topic." Tinelli's request to have his year on San Lorenzo's marketing committee recognized by the AFA was rejected by AFA lawyer Mario Schmoisman (CLARÍN, 4/14).

FERNÁNDEZ DEFENDS FPT: DYN reported Argentina Cabinet Chief Aníbal Fernández said that there is "no anomaly" in the Fútbol Para Todos program. Referring to a claim by Argentina's national auditor that funds have been diverted, he said that "there is an effort to invent something that does not exist." The auditor's report "reveals serious errors and spending without support" of 179 million Argentine pesos from '09-12. Fernández said that Fútbol Para Todos "should be one of the simplest things to administrate, as within the State it has no secrets" (DYN, 4/15).
