FC Augsburg Agrees To Three-Year Shirt Deal With WWK Versicherungsgruppe

Bundesliga club FC Augsburg "agreed to a new shirt sponsorship deal with insurance group WWK Versicherungsgruppe," according to Götz & Schmoll of the AUGSBURGER ALLGEMEINE. The three-year deal "was signed in early March and is also valid for the 2nd Bundesliga." The two parties "did not reveal financial terms of the deal," but reports suggest the club will receive around €3M ($3.2M) annually. That is around €1M ($1.05M) a year more than current sponsor AL-KO. Should the club qualify for the UEFA Europa League, the amount "would increase drastically." In addition, the club "is looking for a new stadium naming-rights partner." SGL Carbon "would love to get out of the contract," which is set to expire in '19. The company "recently reported big losses." The Munich-based insurance group has not ruled out the possibility of taking over the stadium rights as well. WWK Chair Jürgen Schrameier: "We could imagine any involvement whatsoever" (AUGSBURGER ALLGEMEINE, 4/11).
