Bulgarian Club CSKA Sofia Major Shareholder Alexander Tomov To Step Down

The "financial turmoil and instability" at Bulgarian football club CSKA Sofia has "taken a new turn with major shareholder Alexander Tomov saying that he has filed an application" to quit his post as chair of the Supervisory Board of the club and "no longer continue as a shareholder," according to Alexander Krassimirov of INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL. He added that on April 2, he transferred his shares to a person "designated by the new investors." CSKA fans have been "demanding for some time that Tomov leave his post and transfer his shares." Fans had "put forward preferred businessmen Milko Georgiev and Borislav Lazarov," who are associates with Julian Indzhov and Peter Madzhukov, "who looked as though they had bought the club last week but then pulled out." Tomov said in a statement, "My exit from the club does not mean that I refuse to help in the future. CSKA is great, the greatest Bulgarian club. Its rescue, survival and progressive development is the responsibility of everyone who is zealous for the preservation of historical, cultural and sporting values of Bulgaria" (INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL, 4/10).
