Football Notes: Final 18 Seconds Of England-Norway Women's U19 Match To Be Replayed

The final 18 seconds of a women's U19 European Championship qualifier between England and Norway are "to be replayed after UEFA acknowledged the referee had made a mistake." UEFA's decision follows an "incident near the end of Saturday's game" when England was trailing 2-1 and was awarded a late penalty. The spot-kick was converted but referee Marija Kurtes "disallowed the goal and awarded Norway an indirect free kick because an England player had entered the box" before her teammate struck the ball. While the laws of the game state that "Kurtes was right to disallow the goal, she should have ordered England to retake the penalty and not awarded an indirect free kick to the opposition" (REUTERS, 4/9). ... Croatia will appeal against UEFA's decision ordering it to play its Euro 2016 qualifier at home to Italy "behind closed doors in June after crowd trouble last month." Croatian FA (HNS) President Davor Šuker said, "We will appeal to UEFA. We're simply devastated by this decision. This is a huge (financial) loss for us, for our tourism, for promotion of Croatia" (REUTERS, 4/9). ... The electronic scoreboard at the Arena Barueri "caught on fire" before the match between Brasileiro sides Corinthians and Bahia on Wednesday. The stadium's management announced that a "short circuit provoked the incident on the side" of the scoreboard. There were no injuries (UOL, 4/9).

LEVERKUSEN FINED: Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen has been fined €20,000 ($21,300) by UEFA after fans "unfurled an offensive banner in their Champions League last 16 first leg" against Atlético Madrid in February (REUTERS, 4/9).

NEW MANU KIT?: Supposed images of ManU's home, away and third strips for next season "have leaked" on to the Internet, "which is bound to excite" many a ManU supporter. Images suggest that the club's away kit for next season will be white, with the third strip black (London DAILY MAIL, 4/8).
