Football Notes: Ecuadorian Club Deportivo Cuenca To Give Players Blood, Alcohol Tests

Ecuadorian football club Deportivo Cuenca wants to end its "difficult situation" and to do so, club President Galo Cárdenas announced that all players "will undergo blood and alcohol testing." Cárdenas: "If we do not address these topics, we will not know if it is true or not. It is preventing before lamenting." The "precedents of the adverse situation" came on Friday during a 3-1 loss to Emelec (MARCA, 4/7). ... Brasileiro sides Flamengo and Fluminense "protested" against the Rio de Janeiro State Football Federation (FERJ) during Sunday's clássico. The clubs' players "entered the field together and posed for a photo placing a hand over" their mouths. The "shut up" protest "showed support from the two rival clubs" to Flamengo coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo, who was recently suspended by FERJ for two matches and on Friday "covered his mouth, a symbolic gesture against 'muzzling,' after pronouncing a complaint against FERJ for being punished" (ESPN, 4/5).
