Franchise Notes: EPL Side Newcastle Supporters To Boycott Tottenham Game

EPL side Newcastle United supporters are "planning to boycott the club's next home game against Tottenham Hotspur" and hold protest rallies against Owner Mike Ashley outside St. James Park instead. A social media campaign calling on supporters to "Boycott the Spurs" game, which will be shown live on Sky Sports, "has already been launched." The aim is to ensure Newcastle is watched by its "lowest ever Premier League crowd to highlight the club's plight under Ashley to a national audience" (London TELEGRAPH, 4/8). ... A-League side Perth Glory is "expected to accept some allegations of breaching the A-League salary cap issued by Football Federation Australia" in its official response to a "show-cause notice provided on Wednesday night." The club did not meet FFA's deadline to "respond to allegations of serious breaches of the salary cap by the close of business on Wednesday and was granted a last-minute request for a two-hour delay." The club reportedly "intends to contest some of the serious allegations" issued by FFA, while it will accept others "in the hope of avoiding a heavy sanction and the possible deduction of competition points" (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 4/8).
