Football Kenya Federation signed a five-year, 270M shillings ($2.92M) TV rights deal with StarTimes for the national team Harambee Stars, according to Gilbert Wandera of the STANDARD DIGITAL NEWS. Under the deal, which starts in '15, StarTimes will now take over all TV rights for the team until '19. The deal was initiated by MP & Silva, which was also responsible for the 202M shillings ($2.2M), three-year deal signed between FKF and Azam Tv three weeks ago. According to the new deal, Harambee Stars will receive 44.68M shillings ($483,200) this year. The figure will jump to 47.14M shillings ($510,000) in '16 and go up to 54.6M shillings ($590,000) in '17. In '18, the team will receive 59.6M shillings ($640,000) and another 64.5M shillings ($700,000) in the last year. FKF Chair Sam Nyamweya said, "The deal is only for the television rights for the team. There is still room for more sponsors and therefore more money for the team. The problems we have had in the past will be no more and now we can concentrate on taking part in upcoming international tournaments." The national team has been operating "without a sponsor for the last two years" since the deal signed with East Africa Breweries Ltd. under the Tusker brand lapsed. It was a 210M shillings, three-year deal (STANDARD DIGITAL NEWS, 4/6).
