Event Notes: CAF To Choose Algeria, Gabon Or Ghana As 2017 Nations Cup Host

Algeria, Gabon or Ghana will be chosen on Wednesday to take over as hosts of the 2017 African Nations Cup finals from "war-torn Libya" when the Confederation of African Football's exec committee votes. All three countries "have sent ministerial delegations to deliver last-minute presentations to the committee before the vote." Gabon Football Federation President Pierre-Alain Mounguengui said, "We are up against some tough contenders but we think we have a good chance." Libya, where a civil war has "brought all football to a halt, withdrew last year from staging the finals." CAF will "also conduct the draw for the qualifying competition on Wednesday" (REUTERS, 4/7). ... Tottenham announced on Tuesday that it will travel to take on a Malaysia XI in Kuala Lumpur next month. It will be Tottenham's first visit to Malaysia since '79 and the club will play at the Shah Alam Stadium on May 27 before a friendly with A-League side Sydney FC in Australia three days later (ESPN, 4/7).
