Football Notes: Blatter To Meet Palestine FA President Over Israel Ban Call

Palestine FA President Jibril Rajoub said on Sunday that FIFA President Sepp Blatter is set for a "series of meetings in the Middle East ahead of a Palestinian bid to suspend Israel" from FIFA. Accusing Israel of hampering its football activities, the Palestine FA said last week it would submit its proposal at the May 28-29 FIFA Congress in Switzerland. Rajoub: "I am going to meet Blatter in Cairo on Tuesday to discuss the draft resolution that we have requested -- that either Israel honor its commitments or it will be suspended from membership of FIFA" (REUTERS, 4/5). ... Serie A side AC Milan has slammed "alleged racism" toward one of its youth teams as "simply unacceptable." Black players of AC Milan's U10 team were "allegedly subject to heckling and racist abuse during Sunday's 4-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain in the Universal Cup." The club said that it does "not want to magnify the issue" and "truly hopes that these reports aren't true or that it was simply a sporadic incident" (AP, 4/6). ... Turkish club Fenerbahce has called for the national Turkish league to be suspended after its team bus "was shot at following an away match against Rizespor on Saturday." The bus driver was "taken to hospital after being wounded in the attack," which took place as the team was heading to Trabzon before flying back to Istanbul, "but no players were wounded." In a statement released on Sunday, Fenerbahce described the attack as an "assassination attempt," linking it to hostility in the "wake of match-fixing allegations that have swirled around the club for months." The club said in its statement, "It is Fenerbahce's opinion that the league must be postponed until this incident is cleared up and the feelings of Fenerbahce supporters are satisfied" (REUTERS, 4/5). ... The Confederation of African Football congress will on Tuesday choose its candidates for the "all-powerful 25-man cabinet of world football's ruling body." Tunisian Tarek Bouchamaoui and Constant Omari Selemani of DR Congo are favored to "finish top in the ballot." They look "likely to sweep Ivorian Jacques Anouma from the committee where he has served for eight years" (BBC, 4/6).
