Sources "confirmed the recent developments of a formal plan being
worked upon" for India to host the 2024 Olympic Games in Ahmedabad, according to IBN LIVE. IOC President Thomas Bach "is scheduled to visit
India later next month" in an official visit to meet India PM
Narendra Modi. India "seems to be going in the right track in order to revive sports in the country and if India manages to win the bid, the venue might well be Ahmedabad." Modi has already "made it clear that he wants to work at the grassroot level to make India a powerhouse of sports and this certainly will be a great step towards that goal." Sources also confirmed that Sports Secretary Ajit Mohan Sharan "has already had a word and held discussions with key IOC officials in this regard and invited Bach to visit India in April." Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal did not confirm any such happenings, and neither did IOA Secretary General Rajeev Mehta, who said that he "is not aware of any such happenings." The National Olympic Committees "will have to send the name of their 'Applicant Cities' to the IOC latest by September 15, 2015 to set the process in motion for hosting the Games" (IBN LIVE, 4/2).
