La Liga Elche Announces It Will Meet Deadline On Owed Payments Thanks To $5.4M Loan

La Liga side Elche said in a statement on Monday that it received a transfer of funds "from an investment firm looking to buy the club," according to the EFE. Elche said that it will be "able to meet its payment obligations by Tuesday." The club's statement said it is "ending the economic uncertainty surrounding its immediate future." Elche Secretary General Antonio Rocamora on Friday announced that a Saudi investment firm would be loaning the club €5M ($5.4M) so that Elche could "meet its obligations to players and other teams" for players on loan. Some Elche execs, however, "are skeptical of the viability of the loan," as this advance formed part of a loan of €20.5M ($22.2M) that was announced in October, which the club has not received. If the club does not resolve its debt of around €3M ($3.25M), it "risks not being able to sign players during the next transfer window" (EFE, 3/30).
