CBF President Speaks Out About Upcoming Struggles Of Brazilian Football

Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) President José Maria Marin said that Brazilian football "is going to pass through a very difficult time," according to Samindra Kunti of INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL. Under Marin, the Granja Comary Training Complex in Teresópolis "was revamped." The CBF "invested more than" €6M during the 10-month renovation of the complex. In addition, FIFA "donated" €900,000 to the project. However, on Marin's watch, Brazil "also suffered the ignominy of a 7-1 defeat against Germany on home soil" during the 2014 World Cup. Marin: "I think the great hope of Brazilian football is youth development. Clubs and directors should be much more preoccupied with the youth ranks rather than with big investments in players of debatable quality" (INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL, 3/20). In São Paulo, Jamil Chade reported Marin "accused clubs of paying 'unrealistic' salaries to players." Marin: "We need to be conscious of the situation in Brazilian football. The [club] leaders need to create a union or an agreement among themselves referring to salaries of players and coaches. The salaries are unreal. We have to face this [fact] as the most possible reality. You can't spend more than you have. The leaders need to follow this path. Currently, it's something that totally escapes reality." Marin's presidency ends April 16 (ESTADÃO, 3/19).
