Brookvale Oval In Need Of Overhaul; NRL Side Manly Unlikely To Move Games

National Rugby League side Manly Chair Scott Penn is confident the club will not be forced to move games from Brookvale Oval but believes the "catastrophic state of the playing surface shows why the Sea Eagles need financial support to complete an urgent overhaul of their 'antiquated' home venue," according to Brent Read of THE AUSTRALIAN. NRL officials are expected to hold talks with Manly officials as well as the Warringah Council as they "seek answers over the deplorable state of the ground" for last Friday night's game against the Canterbury Bulldogs. Penn is "as concerned as anyone" and said the state of the ground "only reinforces why he has been working behind the scenes to garner funds to redevelop the venue." Penn: "This is another reason why we need a total overhaul of the ground. We can't keep going on an antiquated facility and surface. We have to redevelop the whole ground. I think this is another signal that it needs to happen quickly. We have to get on with it" (THE AUSTRALIAN, 3/23).
