Meeting Monday Will Determine Who Will Pay $9M For Arena Corinthians' Olympic Structures

The Rio 2016 organizing committee arranged a meeting for Monday in São Paulo "to define the Arena Corinthians' situation" in relation to the Olympics, according to Leonardo Filipo of GLOBO ESPORTE. After the Arena Corinthians was announced as one of the sites for 2016 Olympic football, Brasileiro side Corinthians President Roberto de Andrade "threatened to leave the arena out of the competition" by claiming the club did not have the estimated R$30M ($9.1M) for the necessary temporary structures. Rio 2016, the club, the São Paulo State Football Federation, the Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) and São Paulo city hall will then meet to "determine who will be responsible for the provisional installations." Andrade: "It's normal in this type of negotiation that the [involved] parties tend to signal their limits to make it so that negotiations begin on a level more comfortable for parties A and B. Our position is to conclude the negotiation and prepare the city of São Paulo to host Olympic football. Corinthians and city hall announced their strategies. We are going into this meeting to close [a deal] and arrive at a middle ground" (GLOBO ESPORTE, 3/18).
