Perth Council Plans To Build A Road Through St. Johnstone's £100,000 Training Pitch

Scottish Premiership side St. Johnstone Chair Steve Brown Wednesday "blasted councillors who voted to drive a controversial relief road through" its £100,000 training pitch, according to the Scotland DAILY RECORD. Perth and Kinross council members "backed a city road project which will wreck" the Perth club’s training facility. Brown and Manager Tommy Wright had "called for the council to support" the  Scottish Cup holders' blueprint to "nurture the next generation of talent by finding an alternative route which would save the pitch beside McDiarmid Park." But, after a heated debate, council members "kicked the club's argument into touch." Brown: "There are a lot of things at stake. We have spent well over £100,000 on the pitch in the last few years and if we have to go back to Stirling >University full-time it would cost us £40,000 ($59,000) a year" (DAILY RECORD, 3/19).
