Redevelopment Of Liverpool's Anfield Stadium Beginning To Take Shape

Liverpool is "pressing ahead" with its stadium redevelopment plans, according to Sunni Upal of the London DAILY MAIL. Steel structures of the new Main Stand are "already starting to take shape" with work to be completed in time for the '16-17 season. The redevelopment of the new Main Stand, "which will seat 21,000 spectators, will increase the ground's capacity by 9,000 to 54,000." More than 4,800 tons of steel will be needed for the new Main Stand, "which will see the existing structure joined together with the new building" (DAILY MAIL, 3/17). In Liverpool, Andy Kelly reported "one of the advantages" for contractor Carillion and LFC Stadium Project Dir Tom Doyle "has been the fact Anfield is in a high part of the city and you do not need to dig down too far to hit solid rock of red sandstone in which to build the foundations" for which 2,750 cubic meters of concrete have already been laid. Liverpool Operations Dir Andrew Parkinson said, "Progress is on track since December when we said we would be going ahead with the Main Stand development" (LIVERPOOL ECHO, 3/17).
