Media Notes: Cricket World Cup TV Viewers To Hear Umpires' DRS Conversations

Conversations between the on-field and video umpires for "contentious decisions" will be disclosed for the most important matches of the Cricket World Cup. The Int'l Cricket Council confirmed on Tuesday that host broadcaster Star Sports "would be allowed to use the conversations between the umpires to accompany footage of the decisions being evaluated" by the video umpires, such as run-outs and any instances of teams using the Decision Review System (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 3/17). ... Football Federation Australia CEO David Gallop hopes the W-League will return to TV screens when the league resumes later this year. In November, the W-League lost its broadcast deal with ABC "after budget cuts at the national broadcaster." Gallop said FFA is "close to an agreement that will reinstate the W-League as one of the few Australian women's sports to receive regular television coverage." The W-League is currently on hiatus as the Matildas continue their preparation for June's World Cup in Canada (AAP, 3/17).
