Event Notes: Four-Day Cheltenham Festival Draws Record Crowd Of 248,521

A record 248,521 spectators attended The Cheltenham Festival, after 68,918 people attended Gold Cup Day, up from 67,814 in '14. The first three days of the Festival in '15 attracted record crowds of 63,249 (Tuesday), 55,859 (Wednesday), 60,495 (Thursday), followed by a sold out Friday of 68,918 (Cheltenham Racecourse). ... Tickets for Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund's DFB Pokal (German Cup) quarterfinal match against league rival TSG Hoffenheim "sold out within two hours." As a result, the game "will be played in front of a sellout crowd of 80,667" at Dortmund's Signal Iduna Park on April 7 (SID, 3/16). ... Infront Sports & Media, organizer of the B2RUN corporate running series, will launch a new event in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, which culminates in the Veltins-Arena. The new addition to the popular format will be held on Aug. 13 at 7:30pm -- bringing the German B2RUN roster up to 12 events and the total number of events across Germany, Switzerland and France to 23 (Infront). ... Victoria will not have to play its Sheffield Shield final away to Western Australia after Cricket Australia accepted it "should be allowed to instead play the match in Hobart because the World Cup rules out the MCG as an venue." The five-day match "will be played at Blundstone Arena from Saturday after CA rejected intense lobbying from the West Australian Cricket Association that the Bushrangers had effectively relinquished hosting rights, and therefore the match should be played at the WACA Ground in Perth" (THE AGE, 3/16).
